Some interesting definitions

mutation:

*A sudden departure from the parent type in one or more heritable characteristics, caused by a change in a geneor a chromosome.
*An individual, species, or the like, resulting from such a departure.
*The act or process of changing.
*A change or alteration, as in form or nature.
*A change of the DNA sequence within a gene or chromosome of an organism, resulting in the creation of a new character or trait not found in the parental type.
*The process by which such a change occurs in a chromosome, either through an alteration in the nucleotide sequence of the DNA coding for a gene or through a change in the physical arrangement of a chromosome.

Adaptation:

*The state of being adapted; adjustment.
*any alteration in the structure or function of an organism or any of its parts that results from natural selection and by which the organism becomes better fitted to survive and multiply in its environment.
*A form or structure modified to fit a changed environment.
*The ability of a species to survive in a particular ecological niche, especially because of alterations of form or behaviour brought about through natural selection.
*An alteration or adjustment in structure of habits, often hereditary, by which a species or individual improves its condition in relationship to its environment.
*Change in behaviour of a person or group in response to new or modified surroundings.

Evolution:

*Change in the gene pool of a population from generation to generation by such processes as mutation, natural selection, and genetic drift.
*A gradual process in which something changes into a different and usually more complex or better form.
*Change in the genetic composition of a population during successive generations, as a result of natural selection acting on the genetic variation among individuals, and resulting in the development of new species.
*A continuing process of change from one state or condition to another or from one form to another.
*The theory that groups of organisms change with passage of time, mainly as a result of natural selection so that descendants differ morphologically and physiologically from their ancestors.
